Generative AI

What is Generative AI?

Generative AI is artificial intelligence that can generate words, photos, videos, and more. It’s unlike traditional AI, which can usually only analyze data. If you give these AI models a description or prompt, they will create something unique based on their learned patterns.

You should note, however, that sometimes the content created by these AI systems can accidentally copy words online. Don’t ever use the entirety of their output. Always check over their work before it goes out!

Some popular examples of generative AI are ChatGPT, which can be used for writing and answering nearly any question, and DALL-E, which can generate photos from text descriptions. Below we have a few free Generative AI tools that can generate written pieces!

3 Great Free Generative AI Tools To Use For Writing

ChatGPT

ChatGPT is a classic. The basic version is free and an easy way to get help with writing and answering nearly any question. The paid version, ChatGPT 4, is stronger and can be used with plugins. It currently costs about $20/month. Here are some ways to use the free version of ChatGPT:

  • Rewording or rewriting content
  • Creating new content such as checklist, mini eBook, series of articles, and more.
  • Generating ideas for article headlines, activities, and games
  • And so much more!

Basically, if you can think of a creative way to use ChatGPT, give it a try! We’ve created a guide that will help you with prompting the basic version.

Claude AI

Claude AI is a free program similar to ChatGPT, but its outputs sound a little more conversational and less robotic than ChatGPT. It claims to have improved accuracy, but ensure you check over any output you receive from Claude AI just in case!

One of the biggest differences between the free version of ChatGPT and Claude AI is that it can read, analyze, and help summarize PDFs and other text-based documents! As of now, the free version of ChatGPT cannot read documents.

Some of the ways we’ve used Claude AI are:

  • Creating charts or tables out of the information in a PDF
  • Asking questions about information in a PDF
  • Writing based on the information in a PDF

Keep in mind that anything you give this program, you must make sure the documents are legible for it to read them. It cannot view and interpret pictures, only text and numbers so far.

QuillBot

QuillBot is an AI-powered rephrasing and rewording tool that has a free-to-use version and a paid version. The free version can do basic rewording, while the paid can expand, shorten, add creativity to your writing, and more! QuillBot can also check over grammar, much like Grammarly, summarize writing, translate, and generate citations. If you upgrade to premium, there is also a plagiarism function!

We’ve mostly used QuillBot for its rewording tool. You can adjust how many synonyms you want it to include, lock certain phrases and words if you don’t want it to rewrite certain areas of your writing, and more.
